Calder Capital is proud to announce the successful acquisition of Sugar Construction of Midland, Michigan by a local electrical contractor.
Sugar Construction, a commercial and industrial general contractor established in 1979 by Tom LeVasseur, Dick, and Don Sugar, has been a staple in Midland’s construction industry. Under the stewardship of Tom’s son Matt LeVasseur and nephew Scott LeVasseur, the company expanded its expertise beyond its original focus on industrial foundation concrete to encompass carpentry and project management. After successful careers in construction and ready to retire, Matt and Scott engaged Calder Capital to find a successor to carry the family legacy on.
The Local Electrical Contractor specializes in new construction, renovations, service, lighting retrofits, cabling, and build-outs. The strategic acquisition of Sugar Construction represents a pivotal move for the Contractor, significantly bolstering its service offerings, expanding its team, and broadening its clientele. The merger is poised to fortify the Buyer’s market presence and operational capabilities.

Rick Purcey served as the Lead Mergers and Acquisitions Advisor to Sugar Construction. Despite challenges and a complex market, the Calder team’s relentless determination facilitated a seamless transaction.
“Congratulations to all parties, it was great working with Matt, Scott, and the Buyer,” noted Rick.
“Congratulations to Matt, Scott, and both the Sugar and Buyer teams on this successful transaction! The synergies were apparent from the start and now both companies march into the future stronger together,” stated Max Friar, Calder’s Founder. “The Sugar Construction deal helps solidify Calder’s expertise and experience as construction industry M&A experts. We look forward to helping many more owners in the space!”
